Quilted Geometric Throw Pillows

My living room needed a good sprucing up, so I whipped up these quilted geometric throw pillows! I was inspired by the pillows Elizabeth Hartman made a few years ago. I made both of these pillow tops using half squared triangles (HST). Boy do I love a HST-- there are endless possibilities for patterns using these little guys. Sew Mamma Sew has a great tutorial for making 8 HST at a time, which speeds up the process tremendously!

I arranged the HSTs into a chevron print for this one.

Quilted Geometric Pillows

Finished Size: two 18" x 18" pillows Materials:

• 3/4 yard black fabric (I used Kona Black)
• 3/4 yard white fabric (I used Kona Snow)
• 3/4 yard back of pillow fabric (I recommend a canvas weight fabric)
• 3/4 yard white scrap fabric or muslin (this will be on the inside of the pillows)
• Two 18" x 18" pillow forms
• Two 20" zippers
• Two 20" x 20" pieces of batting (5/8 yard of 92" batting)

Cut:

• Nine 9" x 9" black squares
• Nine 9" x 9" white squares
• Two 20" x 20" squares of muslin or white scrap fabric
• Two 20" x 20" squares of batting
• Two 20" x 20" squares of the back of pillow fabric

Make:

• Use the Sew Mama Sew tutorial to make 72 HST squares
• Trim the squares to 3.5" each
• Arrange the squares to your desired pattern (36 squares per pillow top-- 6 rows of 6)
• Piece together your two pillow tops using a 1/4" seam allowance
• Using the muslin or scrap fabric as the backing, layer and baste both pillow top panels
• Quilt both panels
• Trim excess batting and backing- finished pillow tops should be 18.5" squares
• Finish the pillows using this tutorial.

I arranged the HSTs into a flying geese pattern for this pillow.
