Your Most Creative Year

Jan 08, 2026

As we move into a new year, I want to invite you to slow down for a moment — to pause, breathe, and gently consider what you want this year to become.

It’s so easy to rush into planning mode, filling our calendars and setting goals before we’ve checked in with ourselves. But creativity doesn’t begin with schedules. It begins with attention.

In this week’s video, I guide you through a creative planning session designed to help you shape the year ahead from the inside out — starting with how you want to feel, and letting that inform what you create, learn, and grow.

Watch the video here:

Most Creative Year

We begin by spending time with the intuitive side of the creative process — the part of you that dreams, imagines, and knows when something feels right. From there, we slowly bring in structure to support those ideas, rather than letting structure lead the way.

In the session, you’ll be invited to reflect on:

  • Moments when you’ve felt most alive, creative, and yourself
  • What you want to grow, learn, or explore creatively
  • What may be getting in the way — and how you might clear space
  • Choosing a simple theme or guiding word for the year

This isn’t about doing more or pushing harder. It’s about making room — for creativity, for joy, and for the things that truly matter to you.

After watching, I encourage you to download the accompanying planning guide and spend a few quiet moments working through it. Notice what stood out, what energized you, and what you’re longing to make space for this year. Those insights are worth paying attention to.

About Meander

In the video, I also share a bit about Meander, my online quilt guild. If you’d like to learn more about the classes, workshops, and creative community inside Meander (including the upcoming 2026 Block of the Month!).

I’m so excited to create alongside you in the year ahead.

Here’s to a year shaped by imagination, intention, and care.

Warmly,
Shannon

Exploring Molas: Reverse Applique From Panama
This week, I want to share something that completely fascinated me — a quilting technique so intricate, symbolic, and bold that I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Sometimes stepping outside our own creative traditions is exactly what helps us see our work (and possibilities) more clearly. That’s what happened for me when I started really studying molas, the incredible textiles made by the Guna ...
The Color Rule I Wish Every Quilter Knew
Have you ever stood in a fabric store holding three bolts of fabric and thought… Do these go together? Am I messing this up? Is this even allowed? If that sounds familiar, today’s lesson is for you. One of the most freeing color discoveries I ever made is this: there are no forbidden color combinations. Any hue can work with any other hue—the only real question is how much harmony or contrast y...
