One Pattern, a Dozen Completely Different Quilts

Aug 18, 2026

Here's a quiet little pattern I've noticed. A lot of us follow the pattern exactly — every fabric, every placement, right down to the cover photo. Partly because it's what we know. And partly because going off-script feels risky. What if I choose the wrong colors? What if I waste fabric? What if it just... doesn't work?

I want to let you in on something: a pattern is a starting point, not a rulebook. And there's no better way to show you than with Sasha.

Meet Sasha

Sasha is our most popular pattern of all time, and I adore how bold and regal she is. She's a Scrappy Appliqué™ pattern — her stripes are the appliqué, and everything else is background. The effect is really striking... and here's the secret: she looks a lot harder than she actually is. Like all our Scrappy Appliqué™ patterns, she's beginner-friendly. (She just has more cutting, with all those stripes — well worth it.)

That's what makes Scrappy Appliqué™ so much fun. Big, striking payoff for approachable effort. No perfect points to chase. Lots of room to play. And because so much of Sasha is your fabric and your finishing, no two ever have to look alike.

(If you've been following along this month — this is where everything we've been talking about comes together. Your scrap rule, your palette, your prints... every one of those choices is what makes a Sasha yours.)

Same pattern, wildly different souls

Let me show you what I mean. Here are a few of my students' Sashas:

And that's before we even get to finishing. You might satin stitch around each stripe for crisp definition. You might quilt an allover motif straight over the top. You might try couching a bit of yarn or cord along the edges for texture. Each choice sends the same pattern in a completely different direction.

Same Sasha. And yet every single one is unmistakably the maker's.

Your Sasha

So picture your Sasha for a moment. Your palette — would you cast her stripes warm and bright, or moody like Cindi's? Your background — crisp white, or dark and quiet? Your finish. That picture in your head? That's your creative voice talking. Let's follow it.

This week, Sasha comes with us

Here's the fun part. Scrappy Appliqué™ is our block of the month in Meander right now — the full workshop, two practice blocks, and a whole community of makers each making it their own.

And this week only, when you join us in Meander, the Sasha pattern is my welcome gift to you — free. The bonus is good through Friday, and then Sasha goes back to being a shop pattern.

So if you've been picturing your version while you read this... come make her with us. We'll walk through the whole technique together, and you'll have everything you need to bring the Sasha in your head to life.

Now tell me in the comments on Instagram or Facebook: what would YOUR Sasha look like? I want to hear about her.
