Absolutely! The templates can be used for simple machine appliqué, reverse appliqué, needle turn appliqué (you'll just need to add a 1/4" seam allowance), and pretty much any other appliqué technique you'll come across!
Most patterns come in multiple sizes, and the exact dimensions will vary by shape. Most include the following sized templates:
- Mini - perfect for mug rugs and tea towels
- Small - perfect for pillows, tote bags, small wall hangings
- Medium - perfect for larger wall hangings, baby quilts, and lap quilts
- Large - ideal for giant wall hangings or bed quilts
Yes! I have taught this technique hundreds of times for hundreds of groups of quilters and have had brand new quilters, life-long quilters, and everywhere in between. This technique is perfect for any skill level, as I have finishing options that range from quick and simple to more intricate.
The exact fabric requirements will vary depending on what size template you choose, but all of the patterns will require:
- Collage Fabric (scraps or fat quarters)
- Background Fabric
- Binding, backings, batting, and basic quilting tools
- Fusible Web*
- Interfacing*
- Stabilizer* (optional)
In the Materials Video, I walk you through the exact materials you need, so there is zero confusion. I'll even provide links to my favorite products.
This will vary depending on the size of your project and which finishing option you choose, but I've had students complete a small project in a single day! This technique is super fast, so you can explore lots of fun patterns.
They are machine washable! I've made many Scrappy Applique baby quilts that have been washed dozens of times, and they hold up great! Whether or not you have fraying will depend on which finishing option you choose, doing a small zig-zag stitch around each collage piece and a satin stitch around the outside edge of the appliqué piece is the most secure/fray-resistant.
