In this program, we will learn a TON and create a bunch of beautiful color-fast fabric that is ready to use in your sewing or quilting projects.
Learn how to dye every color on the Color Wheel with my Dye Recipes PLUS learn a bunch of fun techniques!
*All dyes and techniques are natural and plant-based, so will be safe for your family and the environment.
Module 1: Getting Started
As soon as you sign up, you'll get our materials list so you can start collecting your supplies.
You can do the dyeing on your kitchen stove or on a hot plate set up in your garage or patio, or anywhere that is convenient.
I will share with you what tools are must-haves, and what you can do without, as well as where you can find some items second-hand.
I'll share my favorite sources for buying white fabric and dye extracts.
You'll learn all about the different types of fabrics you can dye with and special considerations for each type.

Module 2: The Complete Fabric Dyeing Process
You'll learn the step-by-step process for dyeing fabric permanently:
- Proper Scouring: learn how to properly pre-wash your fabrics to ensure a nice, even dyeing.
- Mordanting: ensures the dye will permanently adhere to your fabrics and allows you to achieve rich, vibrant shades. This step is essential, but you'll need to mordant different types of fabrics (cotton, silk, etc) differently. I'll walk you through the whole process of dyeing every type of natural fiber.
- Dyeing: Learn the different techniques for dyeing with flowers, leaves, roots, bark, and extracts. Each is processed a bit differently, and I'll share how to achieve rich, saturated colors!
- Washing/Finishing: learn how to finish your fabrics so they won't bleed onto your sewing projects.
Module 3: Modifying / Mixing Colors
Learn how to extend the colors you can achieve using the same dye sources by modifying or mixing colors!
You'll learn all about PH and mordant modifiers and how to use them with different types of fabrics and dyes.
You'll also learn how to mix colors effectively to achieve rich and nuanced hues.

Module 4: Color Recipes
Over the course of years, I've experimented with lots of different dye sources, techniques, and ways of modifying colors to dye the entire Color Wheel! You'll get my recipe for achieving all the colors on the wheel, so you can achieve those exact hues you're looking for!
Module 5: Fabric Painting & Printing
Add pattern to your fabrics with a variety of simple and creative techniques!
You'll learn how you can take your left over dye and extract the pigment from it. That pigment can later be used to print or paint on your fabric! (You can also use it to make your own watercolors or oil paints!)
You'll learn a number of different printing and painting techniques that will work beautifully even if your drawing skills are limited!
